Aditya Pancholi (born 4 January 1965) is an Indian film actor working in Hindi Cinema. Aditya first came to limelight for portraying the Rajput character Chhota Ghoda in the Mukul S. Anand multi-starrer Maha-Sangram. He again gave an award winning performance in the Mahesh Bhatt film Saathi (1991 film) and the Sanjay Gupta directed Aatish: Feel the Fire. His performance in Yes BossKhilonaand the double role in Jung was also very well received. He has also proved his worth in many villainous roles as well, the recent being Bodyguard and Race 2.
His solo performance in Yaad Rakhegi Duniya which is the unofficial remake of Mani Ratnam's National Award Winning 1989 Telugu Film Geethanjali was brilliant. His solo performance in Sailaab (1990 film)NaamcheenChor Aur Chaand was appreciated though films were average at the box office.
He got two nomination. In 1998 Nominated Filmfare Best Villain Award for Yes Boss and in 2011 Nominated Global Indian Film & TV Honours award for Best Villain in Striker. He is a tall actor with a height of 6'3" or (1.91 m).

Early life

He is the son of the filmmaker Rajan Pancholi and Aruna. He has one sister and two brothers. He was born as Nirmal Pancholi in Mumbai, India. He went to St. Joseph's high school in Juhu, Mumbai.He is Ahir by caste.

Controversy and criticism

When Pancholi was dating actress Pooja Bedi, he was accused of statutory rape of her minor domestic help (who was 15 at the time). On June 4, 2013, he and his son Suraj were interrogated by police in connection with suicide of actress Jiah Khan.

Career

1980s

Aditya Pancholi was spotted by a director when he was traveling in a local train for his charming good looks and personality . He was signed for six video films produced by Hiba . Hiba was owned by Nari Hira the owner of Stardust Magazine. Shahadat, (1985), Sone Ka Pinjra, (1986)Siyahi, (1986), Kalank Ka Tika, (1986)Afshar Ki Saali, (1986), Maryam Ki Beti, (1986) . He made his Bollywood debut with Sasti Dulhan Mahenga Dulha, (1986).
But it was K.C.Bokadia's Kab Tak Chup Rahungi, (1988) along with Amala another debuntante from south which established him in Bollywood. He followed up with Mohabat Ka Paigham, (1989) along with Meenakshi Sheshdri and Pyaar Ka Toofan, but both the romantic films didn't help his career. He was paired with Superstar Amitabh Bacchan and Mithun Chakraborthy in Jaadugar, (1989) and Ladaai, (1989). The latter was an average grosser. The same year saw him with Veteran actor Raaj Kumar and Dev Anand in Desh Ki Dushman, (1989) and Lashkar, (1989) .

1990s

Aditya Pancholi played a double role for the first time in Zakhmi Zameen, (1990) opposite Jaya Prada that of village Dafli wala Mangal and an inspector but it was Mukul S. Anand directed Maha sangram (1990), where he played the Rajput character Chota Ghoda which brought him to limelight in Bollywood as an actor. In the same year he starred with Madhuri Dixit in Sailaab, (1990). The same year he starred in Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, (1990)' his first comedy film along with Shakti Kapoor and Kader Khan and it proved lucky as it was in the list of Top 10 films of that year. But he got his recognization with Mahesh Bhatt directed Saathi (also known as The Companion) (1991), Yaad Rakhegi Duniya (1992), Aatish: Feel the Fire (1994), Khilona (1996), Hameshaa (1997), Yes Boss (1997),Military Raaj (1998) . He got his First Film Fare Nomination for Best Villain for Yes Boss and his role from young guy of 25 years to 40 years matured man in the Sanjay Gupta directed Hameshaa got him critical appreciation. His performance in the Sanjay Gupta directed Aatish: Feel the Fire was compared to Hollywood actor Al Pacchino and was well received by the masses and classes.His performance in the double role in Jung (1998) along with Mithun Chakraborthy and Ajay Devgan was also very well received.
He also produced his only film Chor Aur Chaand (1993) which flopped at the box office in spite of critical acclaim and great music.

2000s

He started the year with the Sanjay Gupta directed Jung (2000) where he played the role of angry inspector Khan along with Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff. In the same year he again appeared with Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala in Baaghi (2000) and with Nana Patekar in Tarkieb (2000) and did a cameo in the Mithun Starrer Jodidar (2000). In the following year he had a single release in Baghawat - Ek Jung (2001) again with Mithun Chakraborthy. But his special role as Inspector in Amitabh and Akshay starrerAankhen(2002) was well appreciated.In the same year he did two more films Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002) and Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa (2002). In 2003 he played the Patriotic Ranbir Singh in Border Hindustan Ka (2003) and a cameo in the Sharukh Khan Rani starrer Chalte Chalte (2002) as a hostile business man. Sanjay Gupta directed Musafir(2000) where he played Inspector Tiger was his last film after which he took a break for five long years from Bollywood.

2010s

Aditya made his comeback as Jaleel Jalebi a strong negative character in the Chandan Arora directed Striker (2010) which got him positive response critically. He was also nominated in Global Indian Film & TV Honours award for Best Villain for his role.
After the successful Aatish: Feel the Fire and the average Hameshaa he colloborated with Sippy Films in Dum Maro Dum (2011)directed by Rohan Sippy.In the same year he was seen in a special appearance in the Salman Khan starrer Bodyguard (2011) as Vikrant.
He paid his tribute to media tycoon Nari Hira in the Emran Hashmi starrer Rush (2012) where he played the role of Roger Khanna but the film flopped. He made his Bengali debut with Idiot (2012).
He started 2013 with Mumbai Mirror which in spite of the critical appreciation and good performance by all could not do well at the box office. But Race 2 (2012) was a major hit at the box office. In fact it was the first 100 crore film of the year.
He is making his debut in Telugu this year against the southern star Venkatesh as the main antogonist in Shadow.
